Coordination

Baby Peach has developed her skills a lot in the last couple of weeks. When handing her toys or her teething ring previously, she’d wave her arms about trying to grab the item. When she finally hit the target, she’d pull it with her palms and steady it against her body while trying to work her fingers to grasp it. Usually it would take several  tries and she’d drop the item unless we were careful of how we presented it to her.

Yesterday I held out her teething ring for her to chew on. She reached out with her left hand and expertly opened her hand and grasped the ring securely in the first try. She pulled it into her mouth and started sucking on it, then brought her right hand up to it and grabbed it on the other side. Again, first try.

Later when I presented her with a toy while changing her diaper, she reached out and grabbed it with both hands in one shot. No more flailing her arms and hands about in the general direction before connecting more or less by accident – she’s seeing what she wants to get to, then making a very clean and conscious movement to hit the target.

All this at 5 months and a week! My baby is growing up too fast.
