New Developments
Well, today marks a number of firsts. Some of these so-called firsts probably happened at least a couple days back, but today’s the first day I really took note of them.
- Eyebrows! Yes, baby Peach is growing eyebrows. Today I noticed them for the first time – faint little arches above her eyes that stood out because of the way she was lit up by the sun. Unfortunately she’s also showing a lot of acne in her eyebrow area too but it should clear up quickly.
- Drooling. She’s started to drool for the first time. Yesterday she managed to drool all over my forearm as I had her draped across it for a burping session – ick! And she seems to spend a lot of time drooling on herself as well. No rhyme or reason to it, she just decides it’s time to slobber and goes at it.
- Hypnotic eye contact and mind control. Baby Peach has mastered the non-blinking stare while gazing deeply into my eyes. I often find myself in unusual locations wondering what happened, while little Peach is kind of smirking to herself in my arms.
- “Dancing” to certain tunes. We’ve put her on a little play mat that has arches with dangling toys and a rather stupid-looking stuffed dog with lights and an internal music player. When certain songs come on she starts to bicycle her legs and wave her arms about. For other songs she quiets right down and just listens without moving.
- Peach wants to be held all the time. She doesn’t want to lie down by herself or she starts calling, then screaming if we don’t come and pick her up within a few minutes. She doesn’t even like to be in her little reclining chair for very long while we’re sitting right next to her – just long enough for us to gulp down our meals before we get the warning yelps.
- Final first: she’s been up all bloody day without a nap, since about 9:30 am. It’s now after 8 pm. She’s been fussing and not wanting to be put to bed. She almost fell asleep when we put her in the stroller and went out for a walk but as soon as we stopped she woke up and started to yell. And to make things more interesting, she’s been demanding to feed almost constantly. Since midnight last night she’s already had about 10 feeds and there’s still 4 hours left to today.
Not sure if I’m ready for any other firsts yet!
Oh, one last first – we went out and bought ourselves one of those Baby Bjorn carriers on the weekend. Very expensive, but also very comfortable with good back support and lots of well-designed snaps and straps that are adjustable with one hand from the front. Because Mom has a bad back and little Peach is getting heavy it’s become a necessity. Other baby slings we’ve tried have not been very good but this carrier is amazing. Some engineer must have gotten frustrated looking after their baby and designed this thing – truly well-thought out adjustments and design.
