Peach and Quiet

Today’s our first day with no one else underfoot. Mom’s parents went back home, and my parents are leaving tomorrow morning. But for one peaceful quiet day, we’ve had the house and little baby Peach all to ourselves without having to worry about anyone else.

Mom took the opportunity to sleep between feedings. For perhaps the first time since baby Peach was delivered, she got more than 8 hours of sleep. Now she’s walking around with a sleep-headache, a victim of too much of a good thing. But it definitely was needed.

As for me, I worked today. I worked from home, which was a nice way to ease into things. I managed clear out over 600 emails that had accumulated over the last 2 weeks (strangely enough, only about 50 of them were noteworthy and worth reading). I even managed to do some productive work beyond just catching up!

And baby Peach has been the bestest little baby girl anyone could ask for. She’s turned 14 days old today and for the last 3 nights has slept for between 2-1/2 to 4-1/2 hours at a stretch during the night. She seems to be aware of night and day – during the afternoons she wants to be held and fusses unless someone is nearby or cradling her. In the evenings she’s been doing a bit of cluster feeding, wanting the breast every 30-45 minutes but drinking for only 3-10 minutes at a time. She’s ready for bed just about the time we are around 9:30-10:30 pm, and then she sleeps straight for at least 2-1/2 hours.

She doesn’t really cry at night – or during the day for that matter. To let us know she’s hungry she’ll give a medium-loud “AAaapp!” a few times and start to smack her lips while fussing with her eyes closed. If we don’t respond within 10 minutes she will then start to cry a bit until we pick her up. And if we’re not fast enough to feed her after that, then the crying and tears will come along with full body temper-tantrums!

We consider ourselves quite lucky. My co-worker with the early baby is now just over 9 lbs at 7 weeks old and he is still waking up 1-1/2 to 2 hours after every feed to feed again.

But every day is a new experience as Peach seems to change almost minute by minute.
