Stroller, Playpen, Breast Pump

We’re getting closer to being prepared.

Yesterday my cousin dropped off a great Peg Perego collapsing stroller – in fine shape and outfitted with all the accoutrements – as well as a playpen. The stroller is amazing, folding up with pretty much the press of a couple buttons. It converts from an infant cradle to a toddler stroller with a few snaps and clicks, so it’s going to be useful for quite a while. When folded it takes up about the same space as a medium-sized rolling luggage bag. The nice thing is you can easily toss it in the trunk or leave it folded in the house so there isn’t so much in the way. We haven’t explored the playpen yet as we’ve had too many errands to run.

Our cousin told us of a liquidation sale for a well-known baby shop close to our place, so Ms. Pregnant One hopped in a taxi and went to look while I was at work. She managed to get some nice infant toys as well as a breast pump for considerable discount. We’ve been lucky as most of the things we’ve purchased have either been on clearance sales or other discounts, except for a few pieces like the crib and wardrobe. Coupled with some of the freebies that friends and family have passed on, we’re managing to get all the things we need without breaking the bank.

Breast pumps in general are rather ominous-looking things. Having been looking at various models and brands, I’ve had to stiffle laughs a couple of times when I’ve seen the packages. One of my favorites is a double electric unit that has photos on the packaging that would have me fleeing in the opposite direction if it was to be used on me. The photos on the box make the units look like some medival torture device made of plastic and tubing!

The last thing we need to get is a car seat. We haven’t settled on one yet and need to buy one soon. We’re holding off until this week’s prenatal class because people will be bringing in ones they have already to show so we all can take a look and see what works and what doesn’t. That should be enlightening. I missed my bargain car seat a couple weeks ago – one was on sale for 50% off but I didn’t buy it thinking I’d come back with Mom-to-Be to get approval. When we went back it was no longer on sale. I should have just bought it and returned it if it wasn’t what she wanted. Oh well.

Anyhow, aside from the car seat I’m feeling a bit more prepared for the arrival of baby Peach… Still not certain I’m ready mentally, but at least we’ve got the supplies in order.
