Week 31

2009 January 2
by Anonymous Dad

We’re now down to about 2 months to go before little Peach comes barrelling out into our world. And while we’re mostly ready, I’m still feeling like a deer in headlights.

We headed out to buy a crib, mattress, wardrobe for baby clothes, baskets to put diapers and such in, padding to put around the crib walls and a few other things to hold baby crap. Not baby crap literally – we still don’t have a air-tight garbage can for that yet. Still looking for something appropriate.

It will all be delivered in a couple of days and then I’ll get to play the Amazing Handy Man and put it all together.

I was looking forward to attending the prenatal classes, but now it turns out that a business trip is going to mean I’m away for the first one. I’m sure all the other couples will be looking over wondering where the no-good father is. I’m jittery because I’ve subconsciously avoided reading anything about baby care and now, with 9 or less short weeks to go, haven’t really got a clue about what to do and what to really expect.

I think it’s time to call the Employee Assistance Program and hyperventilate into some poor phone counsellor’s ear for a while.
