Reflux Gastritis
More good news! She had to visit the doctor last week and mentioned that her reflux gastritis is bothering her. It’s gotten to the point where she’s waking up at least every second night coughing and sputtering as she chokes on her reflux. Not fun at all, and very alarming for me sleeping next to her. Some nights she doesn’t fully start choking but I can hear her kind of cough as a bit of stomach acid gets in her windpipe. She’s not sleeping as deeply or waking up as rested now, so this additional sleep disruption is not good.
Anyhow the doc prescribed some stronger antacids known as H2 or Proton blockers. The particular drug in question – esomeprasole – is pretty darned expensive so the doctor was good enough to give her a few sample packs to try out before buying.
Wow, what a change. Since taking them (for the past 3 days) she’s had almost no reflux or heartburn. I’m hoping this lasts.
