I Can’t Believe It
I keep saying this, and I keep on saying it again every couple of days: her belly is getting positively HUGE!
Last night she was lying on the couch where she fell asleep with the TV on. Her belly showed a definitely tense kind of rounded profile against the cushions. It really looked like she had a basketball under her top – about the same diameter and roundness. I ran off to get the camera and snapped some photos of her. After a few shots I got that low warning growl that told me to back away slowly, which I did.
Now tonight at dinner she was sitting there with her scrubs on. Normally her scrub bottoms were very loose and baggy (long story short: the uniform nazi gave her over-sized scrubs and is so difficult that she kept them rather than trying exchange them for better-fitting ones). Tonight they were almost completely filled by her pregnant bulge bump baby-filled basketball.
And because her belly is so round, she has to tie the waist waaaaaaay up, just below her ribcage now. Ever see the animated Alice in Wonderland? Remember Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum? She kind of looks like one of them now. Except that she’s real. And has a baby in her belly.
The most alarming fascinating thing is we’ve got 2-1/2 months to go yet – March 6 is the estimated birth date. I can’t imagine how big she’s going to be then!
Oh – an update on her belly button. It’s not so deep now. Before it was like this tunnel leading deep into her belly. Now it’s less deep, perhaps a couple of centimeters. I read somewhere that it will pop out soon and then she’ll have an outie. And that a few weeks after giving birth the whole thing will retract like the cord in a vacuum cleaner and it’ll be back to normal.
I’m not sure what freaks me out more: the rate at which her belly is growing, the size of her belly, or the belly button thing. Oh I know. It’s the idea that I’m about to become a dad. AGH!
