Crop Circles

It’s Week 29!

Here’s a new one: a few days ago she went for a massage. During the massage the therapist noted that she had a strange red circle on her low back and told her about it.

It’s a dark red raised ring a bit larger than the diameter of a toonie, slightly to the right side of her spine. She says it doesn’t itch or anything and would not have known it was there if she hadn’t been told. When I looked closer the center of the ring was a bit darker than her normal skin colour and it looked dry and scaly.

Both of us thought it was either some sort of a bug bite or a fungal infection like ringworm (Ringworm is neither a worm nor a ring. It’s a fungus). She didn’t want to go see a doctor at first, but then I ranted at her about the possibility of it being a spider bite or even the classic “bulls-eye” that surrounds a Lyme Disease tick bite. So she made an appointment at her clinic for the next day.

Turns it that the doc looked at it and said, “it’s some kind of fungus.” She was told to use Canesten or a similar topical antifungal cream until it goes away. Kind of anticlimatic after my big speech about infected bug bites and all.

Then last night after she had her shower I heard her calling me from the bathroom. I went to find out what was the matter to see her standing stark naked in front of the mirror examining a patch of skin on her stomach, just below her breast. There was a faint reddish irregular outline about the size of her palm on her skin. Depending on the angle I looked it was either very obvious or almost invisible. For the most part the skin looked normal except for this faint darker outline – and this looked to me exactly like ringworm (trust me, I’ve had it several times). But the middle of the patch didn’t show any difference and the outline didn’t show the classic indentation. We both looked at it wondering what was going on.

A little while later when we were getting ready for bed she checked the area and there was nothing. Zilch. Just plain old normality. So either both of us had some sort of group hallucination or perhaps it was just a pressure outline from her clothing or something.

We’re going to watch and make sure it’s really nothing. She doesn’t really need to have fungus on her belly as well as her butt. Butt fungus. The worst fungus of the day.
