Christmas Party #1
This weekend was also her christmas party – and having been teased by everyone that she didn’t really have a spouse because no one has ever met me, we decided to attend.
It was the usual sort of office Christmas party held at a local hotel. About 85 people attended with significant others for a buffet dinner and bit of dancing afterwards. The meal was nice but nothing really special – the requisite turkey and stuffing, baked salmon with dill, roasted ham with rum and raisin sauce, mashed potatoes, roasted zucchini mixed with parsnips, buttered steamed carrots, green salad and dinner rolls. Dessert was a selection of chocolate mouse in a chocolate cup, eggnog cheesecake, fruitcake and small assorted pastries. Once again both of us ate too much!
I met a lot of her colleagues. I’m no longer the Anonymous Spouse! The strangest things I found about the whole experience were (a) that some people expressed shock and surprise that she’s pregnant, and (b) everyone telling me “congratulations!” Congratulations for what? It’s not like we did anything special!
I can’t believe that some of her coworkers didn’t know she is pregnant. Come on, the scrubs they wear at work are kind of loose and baggy (not like those designer boob-enhancing jobs they wear on Gray’s Anatomy or ER) but really. Her belly is so far out that I doubt she’s seen her toes in weeks. And while never supermodel slim, she certainly couldn’t have packed on that much fat in just 7 months!
The evening was fun. I chatted with some of her coworkers and their spouses while she got up and danced a bit. The music wasn’t too loud but she could feel Peach dancing along to the music as well. We’re not sure whether baby Peach likes or dislikes the music, but either way there are lots of kicks and bouncing about from inside. Once we got home baby Peach kept up the internal dance so poor Mom-to-Be couldn’t sleep. I think it was also because she ate too much again – she had 3 of those desserts.
