Baby Names Revisited

Okay, now that we know the gender of little Peach, we have started discussing potential names again. I’m still of the mind that we shouldn’t choose a name until we’ve met the little poop-maker – yes, that sounds just a little to granola even for me, but it’s just a gut feeling I have. You don’t just choose a random name for your dog or cat without taking into account a bit of what they look like and how they act. So I’m reluctant to choose a name before meeting the kid.

As in my earlier post she wants to have a name that works both in French and English, which narrows the field a lot. And baby name books don’t help much because the ones we can find here are anglo-centric.

We’ve got a short-list of perhaps 6 names but I haven’t really made any suggestions myself. I’ve vetoed a couple and a couple that I’ve come up with (some in jest) have been vetoed by her. But no real decisions have been made. This is a good thing and I think she’s coming round a bit to my line of thinking.

But I think we’re both in agreement that we won’t do like one of her friends did. This couple didn’t name their second baby for at least a couple of months but kept calling him “little tree”. I think Peach is a little more endearing and less cumbersome.
