Pregnant Math: 9 x 4 = 40
2008 November 14
I’ve finally figured out how a pregnancy of 40 weeks equals 9 months. No, it’s not 9 months x 30 days ÷ 7 days/week which is 38 weeks. It’s calculated from the woman’s last menstrual period. And since ovulation occurs around 2 weeks after the menstrual period, those 2 weeks are included in the pregnancy length.
That doesn’t make much sense to me, but then again I’m a guy and things like this don’t make sense to me at all. But at least I’m clear on how 9 months has 40 weeks.
