Week 20

We’re now at 20 weeks – and we’re half-way there!

There’s no hiding it now. Her belly is definitely protruding and the right shape for pregnancy (despite my suspicions voiced earlier). Depending on what she’s wearing it’s not longer ambiguous whether she’s pregnant or just overweight.

The belly-band and her special maternity jeans are now standard wardrobe. I’m trying to remember what pregnant women used to wear before the invention of modern maternity clothes – I think I remember my mother wearing big tent-like shifts and loose-fitting dresses. I definitely don’t recall her wearing pants (then again I was only 2-3 years old at the time). Actually now that I think about it more, women didn’t even wear jeans back then – there were only jeans designed for men. It wasn’t until I was much older that I recall the whole deluge of TV advertising for jeans specifically designed for women’s hips. Guess I’m giving away my age, huh?

Now the little baby Pêche is kicking regularly. She can feel baby Peach when she lies down on the couch and puts her hands on her belly. I’ve also felt the smurf kick a couple of times, so now I’m less suspicious that this is just a grand hoax. Not completely convinced, but there’s less room for paranoia.
